"Help Feed the Needy During the Holiday Season"
Jackson County's Food Bank Dilemma
ACCESS food programs director Marcee Champion expressed that everyone is feeling the financial pinch. When budgets are affected, people tend to become nervous about making donations. Additionally, there have been fewer food drives held in the community. This has put additional pressure on the food bank to meet the needs of those in need.ACCESS has been working hard to provide food, but the lack of donations has made it challenging. They have had to rely on their reserves, which have depleted quickly. The situation calls for community support to ensure that families have enough to eat during the holiday season.
You can make a difference by supporting ACCESS. Every little bit counts, and one can of food can stretch a family's budget. Find information on how to support ACCESS here.
Josephine County's Food Bank Struggles
The Josephine County Food Bank has also faced difficulties. Their warehouse manager Matthew Stevens mentioned that the amount of donations this holiday season was half or less than the typical amount. As a result, agencies are getting less on their lists than usual.Despite seeing a larger number of food drives recently, the lack of donations has still been a significant issue. The food bank is doing its best with the reserves they have, but it's not enough to meet the full demand. However, the support from Oregon Food Banks and large donors gives them some comfort.
Both organizations are appealing to the community for help. Together, we can ensure that those in need have access to food during the holiday season. Find information on how to support the Josephine County Food Bank here.
